twentysix search was excited to welcome a particularly distinguished new addition to the team this month, with the arrival of Stu McGregor in the newly created role of Client Services and Operations Director.
A former Client Services Director at Leeds agency Stickyeyes, Stu joins us with more than 23 years of digital experience under his belt – including 14 years in search marketing. He’s spent time working for Microsoft, KPMG and as European Business Development Director for Yahoo Search Marketing – quite a CV we’re sure you’ll agree!
Now that we’ve managed to nab him, Stu will be responsible for strategic client relationship management and day-to-day operational delivery – using his extensive knowledge of the industry to help take twentysix search to the next level, while ensure that we continue to deliver fantastic service to our clients. We sat him down to find out a little bit about how he got from there to here…
How did you get started in digital marketing?
During my time at Microsoft (MSN) my role team supported all the EU sites for MSN, I sat between the business and site operations. It seemed a natural progression to move to the business side. The future was search and I wanted in.
You’ve built up quite an intimidating CV, what do you think is the secret to success in this industry?
It’s all about relationships, people buy from people. Plus staying plugged into what the industry is doing, latest and greatest – it moves so fast.
Tell us about some of your career highlights so far…
1. While I was at KPMG, I was invited to speak at a Partners conference on the benefits on moving to a Global Area network which allowed accountants to use the same client data, but on a global basis. This event was held in Bali for two weeks. There I met the IT partner from Sydney who asked me to move ‘down under’ for 3 years to support the ASPAC region on moving to Internet access to the desktop.
2. Joining MSN within the early years of online advertising.
3. Moving to Overture within the early years of paid search advertising.
What attracted you to twentysix as the next stage in your career?
I saw an opportunity to help build on someof the great work that’s already going on at this agency and take it to the next level. Also, Gail (CEO) and Ryan (Search M.D.) – they sold the dream. I also really admire the whole ethos of the agency.
What are you hoping to achieve in your time here?
To continue the growth story so far, work with some great people and clients –and to have lots of fun.
What’s your Football team?
