Despite a love of wearing luminous yellow clothing, the twentysix runners are a low-key lot. In 2012 we clocked up several thousand training miles, two marathons, six half marathons, eight 10ks, regular attendances at local 5k parkruns and a good number of PBs inspired by the healthy levels of inter-department competition (annoyingly the creative team seem to be the fastest at twentysix) and all we had to show for it is a picture of three of us looking a bit ill at the end of the Leeds Half Marathon.
So in 2013 we’ll make a bit more noise about it. We’ve already got some races in the calendar and I’ll be kicking off with the Brass Monkey half marathon in York on Sunday 20th January. Three twentysixers have signed up for The Big One – the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon on October 20th – and in between we have a 10k in Bradford, the Liversedge, Baildon and Leeds half marathons, and most impressively of all a 100k (yes, ONE HUNDRED KILOMETRES) in 30 hours challenge in the Yorkshire Dales in June.
Can Ryan run 1000km in 2013?
Will Al do the Yorkshireman Trail Marathon in under 5 hours?
Can Guy beat his Abbey Dash PB of 43 minutes?
Is Sav going to remain fastest twentysixer over 5k distance?
Will I ever get under 4 hours for a marathon?
Will Luke actually toe the startline of the Yorkshire Marathon? Or get injured on the way?
And will the frankly heroic Steve, Sue, Dan and George conquer 100km (again, ONE. HUNDRED. KILOMETRES) of Yorkshire dales within 30 hours and live to tell the tale?
Hopefully photographic evidence and the odd race report will provide answers…
