Gunning for Promotion – Meet Scott & Andy!


Last week, twentysix announced a hat-trick of promotions .

This week, we caught up with Andy Chung – Paid Media Director and Scott Tehrani – SEO Director on their careers and what they hope to achieve in their new roles.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN DIGITAL MARKETING?

ST: About 12 years ago now back at University.  Not actually in class, but I lived with a web designer in the first year that was building whizzy Flash websites for nightclubs which I thought was really cool.  I then went on to build some pretty unfriendly framed websites before getting into XHTML, then later HTML5.  So I picked up on SEO from the start by trying to shoe horn my ridiculously basic early sites into Google (and Yahoo, Alta Vista et al at that time).  It was so much easier back then!

AC: When I started my studies at University I knew I wanted to get into the digital marketing industry as it really drove my interest in technology and marketing. As a result I moved to London where I started my Career at Affiliate Window as an Account executive. This put me on the ladder at the start of my career. During my 3 year tenure at Affiliate Window I quickly progressed to a Key Account Manager handling some of Affiliate Windows biggest accounts, it was here I got my thirst for a much broader role within Digital Marketing. Thankfully when I decided to move to Leeds twentysix gave me the ideal platform to branch into a broader role within digital marketing, as well as building and leading a team within the agency which represented a huge challenge, but also great rewards.

 

TELL US ABOUT SOME OF YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHTS SO FAR?

ST: Managing a global SEO account for 2 years and getting incredible results that changed the way the business was perceived around the world.

AC: Building a team within a digital marketing agency from zero to a team of 6. As well as branching this team out to 5 other online disciplines to ensure we are competitive within the digital marketing space for our clients and being nominated on various occasions for our hard work and effort we put into our client campaigns.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT DIGITAL RIGHT NOW?

ST: The convergence of channels.  Discovery and the purchase path is more fragmented and competitive than ever as our use of the web has matured so much over the last 15 years.  How we reach different customer segments organically is going to be an ever increasing challenge for SEOs.

AC: Influencing the conversion funnel is an art and I really like the psychology and sociology elements to Digital Marketing.  Too often SEOs are head down in data or code and actually they need to put the user first.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO ACHIEVE IN YOUR NEW ROLE?

ST: To work more closely with our multi-talented Dev, Interface, UX/CRO, Mobile & Social teams to deliver top quality technical and creative content based SEO.  We are lucky at twentysix to have talented specialists in every department that relates to the widening remit of SEO.

AC: I’m really excited about the new role I have now stepped into with twentysix. I honestly believe that with the right strategy and building the right foundations of how we provide tangible insight into how the various paid media channels help drive each other into a complete, transparent and holistic channel for our clients we could really provide added value and insight to our client marketing strategies that give them 100% complete confidence in our strategic decisions when utilising paid media online. We are still nimble enough as a digital marketing agency to be able to quickly adapt our way of working to the latest technologies available to us and provide a service our clients demand in a sector where proactivity is king.

FINALLY, TELL US SOMETHING NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

ST: I’m double jointed in both my arms and legs?

AC: I am a very keen poker player but have had less time to spend on this hobby, but I did compete on TV as one of the top 50 student poker players in the UK when I studied at university, I unfortunately fell short at the quarter final stage.
